October 2021 Newsletter

Hey! Matt and Pat here.

October means the start of daylight savings and with fingers crossed, the end of Sydney’s severe lockdowns. As we move our clocks forward by one hour, it’s a good time to check our smoke detectors. In this newsletter, we’ll talk about a fabulous, new technology for smoke detectors which will wirelessly alert everyone in your home.

Your health and safety are always important to us so we carefully follow all COVID safety requirements. For your peace of mind, we also offer contactless quoting. Read on to learn how it works.

For all your home, office and ‘working from home’ wiring needs, call us on 0418 442 578 or email info@kuring.com.au.

Cheers,

Matt Cox & Pat Dobbs

The tongue twister that could save your family

Our sense of smell goes to sleep when we do. So if a fire begins in our homes while we are sleeping, we probably won’t smell it. That’s a big problem because fire depletes the oxygen present in our homes and our furnishings can create toxic gases that will make us feel drowsy, disoriented and short of breath.

That’s why smoke detectors are so important. They let us know if there is smoke in our homes so we hopefully have a few minutes to get the family out of the house.

Ideally, all smoke detectors in your home should be interconnected so when something starts to smoulder, every smoke detector in your home goes off. This will give you the maximum amount of time to get out.

Until recently, interconnected smoke detectors required hardwiring which can be difficult to retrofit in some homes and apartment buildings. But now there is new technology that’s more affordable than ever and it allows smoke detectors to be wirelessly linked throughout your home.

Wireless interconnected photoelectric smoke detector … Big name. Big benefits!

As the name suggests, wireless interconnected smoke detectors don’t require hard wiring. Instead, they use a radio frequency to trigger every smoke detector in the system. This technology allows a smoke detector in one area of your home to trigger the other smoke detectors. In apartment buildings or multi-storey homes, it means the smoke detectors will be triggered on each floor.

Hardwired or wireless, having a photoelectric smoke detector is important because it detects smoke when something begins to smoulder. Having this early fire detection ability means you have the maximum amount of time to alert your family and get out of your home.

The other great benefit of photoelectric smoke detectors is their battery life. Unlike the old style smoke detectors, you don’t need to change the battery each year. Instead, the battery lasts 10 years and then you replace the entire smoke detector.

Don’t have regrets!

There are minimum requirements for the number of smoke detectors you need to have in your home and they vary from state to state. But one thing is for certain, if something happens in your home which starts a fire, you’ll want to know you did everything possible to keep you and your family safe.

If you don’t know how old your smoke detectors are, get us in to change them. If you have any doubts about whether you have sufficient smoke detectors in your home, ask us to review them.

Don’t wait until you have the fright of your life and a smouldering appliance in your home. Ask us to review or replace your smoke detectors today. To make a time, call Ku-ring-gai Electrical Service on 0418 442 578 or email info@kuring.com.au.
