Why has my power gone out?
There are many reasons why you may be left without power. The most common reason is an overload. An overload occurs when there are too many appliances running at the same time. Other reasons include using a faulty appliance or having a fault with the wiring itself.
The first thing to do is check the switchboard. Do you have fuses or circuit breakers?
If you have a circuit breaker switch, it may be as simple as flicking this switch back on. If this does not work, call your electrician.
If the switch is still on, try checking outside or with neighbours. Maybe the power outage is due to an electrical supply problem for your area. If this is the case, call your local supplier.
If you still have fuses in your switchboard, maybe itÔÇÖs time to talk to an electrician about updating your switchboard to a modern, safer and easier to use switchboard with a circuit breaker.
But remember, if in doubt contact your electrician. Electricity is dangerous and is best left to licensed professionals.
